Reading, Pa. (Feb. 20, 2016) - Centenary College (1-0) topped Alvernia University (0-1) by a final score of 12-6 Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse play at Alvernia.
The Cyclones took a four goal lead in the second quarter when they scored four goals. Cyclone senior Joey DeBiasse was the first player to score in the second starting the four-goal rally at 13:09. The Cyclones scored their last three goals with under six minutes remaining in the half to take a 7-3 lead going into halftime.
Centenary started the scoring two minutes into the game on a goal from Denzel Thompson. The Crusaders answered quickly scoring two goals in under a minute to take their only lead of the day. The Cyclones answered with two goal late in the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead going into the second quarter.
Alvernia freshmen
Jarret Abernethy and
Kyle Augustine had solid days for the Crusaders. Abernethy started the season strong with a goal and two assists for the Crusaders. In the net, Augustine saved 13 shots on 42 total shots.
Brett Gardels lead the Crusaders with two goals, while the Cyclones was lead by DeBiasse with three, Nolan Gottshall and Thompson scored two apiece for the Cyclones.
The Crusaders travel to Stevenson University to start conference play this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
