Benjamin Manning scored a career-high five goals to lead Alvernia University (1-2) to a 16-6 win over Neumann University (0-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Neumann.
Manning scored the first two goals of the game and also handed out both of his assists in the first quarter as the Crusaders jumped out to a 5-1 lead through the first 15 minutes. Alvernia added three more goals in the second quarter and had an 8-1 lead at the break.
The scoring continued for the Crusaders in the second half as they outscored the Knights in every quarter.
Brett Gardels notched his first career hat trick, and eight teammates scored a goal apiece. Jarrett Abernethy finished with a goal and two assists.
Freshman
Kyle Augustine made 13 saves and earned his first career victory in 56 minutes.
Jacob O'Donnell made two saves in four minutes.
Alvernia returns to action next Saturday at Manhattanville College.
