Reading, Pa. (Feb. 3, 2016) – Alvernia University (8-13, 3-9) got a career-high 22 points from
Morgan Downs in a 70-58 win over Hood College (4-17, 0-12) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
Downs added 12 rebounds missing her career high by one. Alvernia took the lead for good with an 8-0 run early in the second quarter.
Hood had the gap down to two points, 35-33, with 7:38 left in the 3rd quarter, but Alvernia put together an 11-1 run to establish a comfortable lead.

Chelsea Ebersole reached double figures with 13 points. Hood put three players in double figures led by 14 points from Alexis Andrukat.
The Alvernia defense was stingy early forcing an 0-for-9 start from the Blazers over the first seven minutes. The Crusader lead was 7-0 before the Blazers got on the board with a pair of free throws with 3:26 left in the quarter.
Alvernia held an 11-5 lead with 68 seconds left before Hood closed with a 6-0 run to knot the game at 11 after the first 10 minutes.
Hood took its first lead, 12-11, with a free throw early in the second, but Alvernia answered with eight straight points capped by a 3 from Ebersole. That lead hit 10 points, 24-14, on free throws from
Logan Focht, and the Crusaders settled for an eight point lead at the halftime break, 35-27.
Hood scored the first six points of the second half to pull within two, but Alvernia answered with a 3-point play from
Stevie Fortna then got back-to-back 3s from
Olivia Andrefski for a 46-34 lead with 5:05 left in the 3rd.
Alvernia—which closes the regular season with three of the final four games on the road—continues the league schedule Saturday at Lebanon Valley.
