Reading, PA. (March 15, 2016) -- Three different Crusaders notched career highs to lead Alvernia University (2-4) to a 14-3 victory over SUNY Cobleskill (2-2) Tuesday evening in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
Senior
Brett Gardels scored four goals--all in the second quarter--to give the Crusaders an 8-3 lead at the half. Both freshman
Andrew Ritchie and
Jarret Abernethy had three goals on the evening. Ritchie had all three goals in the third quarter while Abernethy had two in the first quarter and one in the last.
Alvernia jumped to an early lead when junior
Danny Flanagan and Abernethy scored early for a 2-0 lead. The Fighting Tigers answered quickly with senior Alex Acompora bringing the score to 2-1. The Crusaders notched two more goals by the end of the first quarter while the Fighting Tigers tallied one more to make the score 4-2 after the opening 15 minutes.
Gardels did all the scoring for the Crusaders in the second quarter, outscoring Cobleskill 4-1.
Acompora lead the Fighting Tigers scoring two goals on the day, while Kyle Magdziuk had one.
John Montainiz had nine saves for the Fighting Tigers and
Kyle Augustine had four for the Crusaders.
Alvernia returns to action hosting Immaculata University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
