Owings, Md. (Mar. 19, 2016) - Stevenson University (8-9, 1-1) scored seven runs in the second inning on its way to a 10-2 win over Alvernia University (7-7, 1-1) in a game shortened to five innings by rain.
The Mustangs sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning scoring seven times on three base hits, two walks, and three Alvernia errors. They added two more runs in the third inning for a 10-0 lead, and Alvernia scored two in the fourth.
After a scoreless fifth inning for Alvernia, the rains moved in and ended the game.
Chris Burns and
Cameron Coons were both 2-for-3 for the Crusaders. Burns hit a leadoff homer in the fourth and Coons doubled and scored in the same inning.

Matt Backlund went an inning plus allowing eight runs--five earned--on four hits and three walks.Â
Nicholas Marotta threw the final 3.0 innings allowing a pair of earned runs.
The second game of the doubleheader was rained out and has yet to be rescheduled.
