Annville, Pa. (Apr. 10, 2016) – Lebanon Valley College (7-3, 2-0) put together multiple goals in each quarter en route to a 12-6 win over Alvernia University (3-8, 0-3) Sunday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Lacrosse action at LVC.
Down 2-0, the Crusaders tallied their first goal of the day with just over two minutes left in the first quarter as
Jarret Abernethy notched his 15
th of the season to cut LVC's lead in half 2-1.
The Dutchmen managed to push in one more goal in the closing second, taking the 3-1 advantage into the second.
Lebanon Valley put away two more in the next eight minutes.
Tyler McDonnell broke the momentum, shortening the gap 5-2 on the feed from
Andrew Ritchie for his fifth goal of the year. The Dutchmen fell back into stride though, netting a pair before the half to hold a 7-2 lead.
In the third quarter, the Crusaders responded to a trio of Dutchmen goals with four minutes until the final quarter. Ritchie served up his second assist of the day as
Brian Schay cut the margin 10-3.
Alvernia put together an offensive charge in the final quarter, notching a string of goals across six minutes. Abernethy jump started the run, roping his second solo shot of the day. The Crusaders take advantage of a man-up opportunity a minute later as McDonnell and Ritchie paired up again to close the gap 11-5.
The Crusaders tacked on their final goal of the day with just over three minutes left in the contest as
Zach Brommer collected his second of the season.
The Crusaders mirrored the Dutchmen through the first half as each side put together 20 shots and eight saves.
Ritchie finished the day with four assists for Alvernia, while goalkeepers
Jacob O'Donnell and
Kyle Augustine split the contest, combining for 18 saves.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, traveling to cross-town conference rival Albright. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
