Reading, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2016) - Albright College (5-6, 4-0) used a seven goal first quarter to guide it to a 20-11 victory over Alvernia University (3-9, 0-4) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Men's Lacrosse action at Albright.
The Lions tacked on two more goals in the start of the second to hold a 9-0 margin.
The Crusaders then hit a run, notching four goals in a three minute span.
Jarret Abernethy put Alvernia on the board, ripping his seventh of the season. The Crusaders then capitalized on a man up opportunity as
Tyler McDonnell netted Alvernia's second goal.
Patrick Dunn followed up McDonnell less than a minute later, and
Benjamin Manning closed out the run with nine minutes left in the quarter.
Manning struck again for the half, driving home the pass from
Brett Gardels to cut the deficit 13-5 going into the final 30 minutes.
Alvernia put together another 4-point run to open up the third quarter as Manning kept a hot hand, netting a pair for the Crusaders.
Andrew Ritchie and Abernethy followed Manning, using a 20-second gap to give Alvernia two more goals, taking the Crusaders within five, 14-9.
The two teams exchanged goals to push the score 15-10, but the Lions notched five goals in the final frame to secure the win.
Manning finished the contest with 5 goals, while Abernethy was close behind with 4.
The Crusaders continue their season on Saturday, traveling to Rosemont for nonconference action at 4:00.
