Annville, Pa. (Apr. 15, 2016) - Lebanon Valley College (13-16, 6-7) scored nine runs over three innings in a 10-4 win over Alvernia University (19-12, 10-3) Friday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at McGill Field.
The Dutchment scored two runs in the third inning, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth, and snapped the Crusaders' 8-game win streak.
Alvernia scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to answer the Dutchmen's 3-run third and set a 5-3 score, but the hosts came right back with four in the fifth to pull away.
Nathan Sides and
Joe Iacobellis both had two hits for the Crusaders. Four players had an RBI each including
Ian Shaffer who hit his fourth home run of the season, a pinch hit shot leading off the seventh.
Matt Backlund went 4.1 innings for the Crusaders and allowed nine runs--seven earned--on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The two teams complete the 3-game season series Saturday at Alvernia.
