Consistent Offense Carries Crusaders To 8-6 Win At Wilkes

Gardels, Abernethy, Manning Score Two Each

Wilkes Barre, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2016) - Alvernia University (3-6) scored three goals in the first and scored in every quarter in an 8-6 win over Wilkes University (0-8) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Wilkes.

Andrew Ritchie, Kyle Farrell, and Brett Gardels each scored for the Crusaders in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead.  Wilkes scored its first goal of the game with 19 seconds left in the first quarter then scored the first goal of the second quarter to pull within a goal at 3-2.

Benjamin Manning bookended two Wilkes goals to finish the second quarter and the Crusaders took a 5-4 lead at the halftime break.

Jarrett Abernethy and Gardels scored the only two goals of the third quarter to give the Crusaders a 7-4 lead after three.

Wilkes scored a goal midway through the fourth quarter then added a man-up goal a minute later to cut the gap back down to one goal.  Abernethy netted the Crusaders' insurance goal with under a minute to play for the 8-6 final.

Jacob O'Donnell made five saves for the Crusaders and Brian Manning made 17 saves for Wilkes.

The Crusaders return to the conference schedule hosting Widener on Wednesday evening.
