Sutton Lifts Alvernia Over Arcadia, 12-11

Glenside, Pa. (Apr. 20, 2016) - Julie Sutton drove in the game winning goal with two mintues left to lift  Alvernia University (5-7, 1-4) to a 12-11 victory over Arcadia University (4-9, 0-5) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Women's Lacrosse action at Arcadia.

Sutton's final shot marked her fifth goal of the night, and her 22nd of the season.

Sutton was a key contributor right from the start.  After falling behind 1-0, the Crusaders put together a 4-goal run to take the lead. Sutton jump started Alvernia's momentum, netted back-to-back goals. Brooke Campione and Abby McCarthy put away shots of their own three minutes apart to extend the margin 4-1.

Arcadia cut the lead in half with ten minutes left in the first, but Campione drove in her second of the night to hold a three goal advantage at 5-2.

The Knight responded with a pair of goals to come within one, but Alyson Keene counted the pass from Tequila Donnelly with a minute left before the half to give the Crusaders a 6-4 lead with thirty minutes of action left.

The Crusaders kept the scoring going to open the second half as Kaitlin Ensulo capitalized on the Campione set up. Sutton tacked on another goal five minutes later, giving Alvernia the 8-4 advantage.

The Knights threatened another run, shorting the gap 8-6, but McCarthy halted their momentum with her 38th of the season to maintain a 9-6 margin.

The two squads exchanged a pair of goals to push the tally 11-8 before Arcadia notched three goals in a little over a minute to square the game at 11.

Sutton's game winner marks her third of the year.

Colleen Reilly picked up the win in goal for the Crusaders, notching 10 saves.

Alvernia continues MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday, traveling to Hood for a 1:00 contest.
