Erica Groves scored her first career goal less than two minutes into overtime leading Alvernia University (1-0) to a 2-1 win over Juniata College (0-1) Thursday afternoon in a non-conference field hockey game at Juniata.
Alvernia senior
Margaret Wentzel scored her 74th career goal with 15 minutes gone in the second half to setup the overtime period. The Crusaders had four shots in the final four minutes of regulation, but Juniata keeper Kylie Edwards made three of her eight saves and the fourth shot sailed wide.
Wentzel put a shot on goal 90 seconds into the extra frame that Edwards turned aside.
Taylor Dorrin collected the rebound and fed Groves for the game-winner.
Alvernia senior
Rebecca Brosious made three saves in the win. Alvernia has back-to-back wins over Juniata in the series and has won five of the last six.
The Crusaders continue the season with a non-conference game at Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday.
