Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 1. 2016) – Alvernia University opened the 2016 season with a 2-1 second half victory over Lancaster Bible College Thursday afternoon in non-conference Women's Soccer action.

Trailing 1-0 entering the second half, the Crusaders netted the equalizer in the 70^th minute. Johnna Shank put heavy pressure on Chargers goalie Kaitlyn Scheuing, firing off back-to-back shots. While Scheuing deflected the first attempt, Shank put away Alvernia's first goal of the day on her second shot from the top of the 18.

A minute later, Shank and teammate Bailey Stover set up senior Erica Dunkelberger for her first goal of the season, giving Alvernia the 2-1 go ahead.

The Crusaders outshot Lancaster Bible 15-9 with 6 corners.

Jessica Plunkett earned the win in goal, making three saves.

Alvernia takes to the road again on Wednesday, September 7^th, for non-conference play against Rutgers-Camden. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
