Reading, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2016) – Eastern University (4-5) scored a goal in each half then held off a furious late rally from Alvernia University (3-5) in a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the 20
th minute when Emily Cole sent Alondra Cervantes into the box in a one-on-one situation. Cervantes took one touch to control the pass then found the back of the net inside the far post.
The Eagles took a 2-0 advantage 10 minutes into the second half when Lydia Peachey hit a shot that was saved by Alvernia keeper Jess Plunkett, but Nicole Weenink gathered the rebound and scored her second of the season.

Lauren Gough stole the ball from the Eastern defender and hit a shot from the top of the penalty box that floated over Eastern keeper Leah Lozzi and into the back of the net.
Eastern's best chance at another insurance goal was wide off the foot of Cervantes with five minutes to play and the Crusaders had one final chance in the 88
th minute, but Emily Smith couldn't quite connect on a long serve into the box.
