Reading, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2016) – Penn State- Berks (6-2-1) scored four goals in the first half en route to a 5-0 win over Alvernia University (3-6) Wednesday evening in non-conference women's soccer action on Alvernia's Turf Field.
The Lions took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute of play. Penn State expanded its lead to three by the tenth minute, and scored its fourth goal midway through the half.
The Crusaders found shot opportunities late in the second half as
Taylor Smith and
Maria Petrongolo ripped shots just wide of the goal.
Lauren Gough placed a shot on goal with eight minutes left to play, but Penn State goalie Kaylee Frapaul collected the save.
Jessica Plunkett and
Kelcey Hutchinson shared time in the net for the Crusaders.
Alvernia continues non-conference play on Saturday, traveling to Franklin and Marshall for a noon start.
