Doylestown, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2016) – The Crusaders advanced to 9-0 on the season as #20 Alvernia University blanked Delaware Valley University (4-6) Tuesday evening in a Middle Atlantic Conference cross-over game at Delaware Valley.
Building on its best start in program history, Alvernia dominated the contest offensively, earning 19 corner opportunities and a 22-10 advantage in shots.
Andrea Wysocki, who netted a pair of goals on the day, put Alvernia ahead two minutes in with the help of teammate
Malorie McCoy. On the Crusaders first corner chance, McCoy took the insert of Wysocki and blasted a shot toward the goal, which Wysocki then deflected into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Alvernia extended its margin with less a minute left in the first half. Again capitalizing on a corner, Wentzel pushed the set up to
Michaela Burke, who drove in her first collegiate goal from the top of the circle.
The Crusaders added a trio of goals in the second half, netting all three in a five minute span.
Wysocki led things off, draining the 3-0 go ahead on a cross from Wentzel to the left post.
Wysocki and Wentzel partnered up again four minutes later. Reversing rolls, Wysocki fed Wentzel out front to set up a breakaway, leaving Wentzel to beat Aggies goalie Rosie Bishop to the left corner.
Wentzel picked up her second goal of the matchup shortly after, knocking in a pass from McCoy for the 5-0 tally.
Crusader goalies
Rebecca Brosious and
Nicole Heinze shared time in the net. Brosious recorded six saves in her fourth shutout of the year.
Alvernia returns to play on Saturday, opening its MAC Commonwealth schedule with Lebanon Valley College. The contest, which will also serve as the Crusaders
Go 4 The Goal game, is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
