York, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2016) - York College (2-0) scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes en route to a 4-1 win over Alvernia University (0-2) Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at York.
The Spartans scored in the eighth minute when Keith Witherell finished off an assist from Brook Addisu. Two minutes later Alvernia keeper
Zach Rider was given a yellow card for a dangerous challenge on a 50-50 ball in the box and the Spartans were awarded a penalty kick. Ryan Ockford took the kick and burried his third goal of the season.
York added a third goal in the 18th minute and held the 3-0 lead at halftime. The hosts held a 5-1 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes and corners were even at one apiece.
York tallied its fourth of the game just over a minute into the second half, and Alvernia got on the board when
Alec Denlinger collected a turnover and netted his first of the season.
Rider played all 90 minutes and made three saves for the Crusaders. The Spartans split time in net without a save. York finished with a 14-4 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corners.
Alvernia hits the road again on Wednesday for a non-conference game at Rutgers-Camden.
