Annville, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2017) – Lebanon Valley College (8-10, 5-4) used a 24-point second quarter to guide it to a 67-56 win over Alvernia University (1-17, 1-8) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action at LVC.
Leading 16-14 entering the second, the Crusaders fell victim to a 15-2 Dutchmen run through the next six minutes to fall behind 29-18. A
Kiersten Ingram 3 halted LVC's run, and a 3-point play by
Megan Bruno brought Alvernia within seven, 31-24. However, LVC stretched its advantage to 12 just before the half.
With the Dutchmen pushing their lead to 53-35 at the three minute mark in the third, Bruno used pair of free throws to spark a Crusader run.
Liv Andrefski followed Bruno with her own set of points from the line, and
Miranda Hoover converted the 3-point play to bring Alvernia within 11.
After an LVC response from its own foul line,
Maya Cooper drained a 3 before putting down two free throws to bring the Crusaders into a single digit deficit, 55-47. Hoover tacked on a final free throw to end the quarter.
Alvernia threated to square things up at the start of the fourth as
Torie Zerbe and Andrefski made back-to-back buckets to pull within three, 55-52, but the Dutchmen were able to strength their lead over the next nine minutes to keep the game out of reach.
The Crusaders were led by Hoover, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards. Cooper mirrored Hoover's 16 points, and Andrefski added 10.
Alvernia continues its conference schedule on Wednesday, hosting Hood College at 6:00 p.m.
