Glenside, Pa. (Jan. 28, 2017) - Alvernia University (2-1) swept a pair of matches at the Knights Men's Volleyball Invitational Saturday afternoon hosted by Arcadia University picking up the first win in the history of the program.
Alvernia won sets three and four in a 3-1 win over Cairn--which will go down as the first match win for the Crusaders--then did the same against the host Knights to improve to 2-1 on the season. Â
Anthony Dadson pounded out 18 kills with only two errors on 24 attempts for a .542 hitting percentage over two matches. Â
Collin Welteroth and
Ralph Lunati were both over 20 kills for the day with 28 and 21 respectively. Â
Justin Gibbs dished out a total of 86 assists.
Match One - Alvernia 3, Cairn 1 | 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19
Welteroth led the way with 16 kills while Dadson and Lunati added 10 each. Â
Austin Rush led the defensive efforts with 10 digs and had four assists. Â The Crusaders hit .440 or better in each of the last two sets combining for 30 kills and just six errors.
Match Two - Alvernia 3, Arcadia 1 | 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19
After a pair of close sets to open the match, the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the match when Arcadia committed 10 errors with just eight kills in the third match. Â Alvernia kept the momentum into the fourth set working its way out to a 12-8 lead and expanding that to 18-10.
The Crusaders continue the inaugural season Tuesday at Wilson College.
