McCoy Leads Golden Wolves Past Eagles

St. Davids, Pa (Oct. 11, 2017) - Alvernia University (8-6), behind a two goal game from Malorie McCoy, extended its winning streak to six games with a 3-1 win over Eastern University (4-9) during non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening at Eastern.

Sophomore Erica Groves kicked off the scoring for the Golden Wolves. In the eighth minute of play, Taylor Dorrin sent a pass over to Groves who shot to the left side of the net and scored. The goal put Alvernia up 1-0, and was Groves fourth of the season.

Seven minutes later, senior Malorie McCoy put Alvernia up 2-0. Freshman Morgan Mondschein connected with Malorie McCoy late in the 15th minute.

In the 30th minute, Eastern's Maya Wales put the Eagles on the board. Eastern took advantage of a penalty corner to get a shot by Alvernia keeper Emma Beamesderfer, and cut the Golden Wolves lead to just one.

In the 51st minute, McCoy got a shot past Eastern keeper Nicole Berger for the second time on the night. This time, McCoy was assisted by McKenzy Lilliock. The two connected to put the Golden Wolves up 3-1

With ten shots on goal, the Golden Wolves outshot the Eagles by five shots on goal.

In net for Alvernia, Beamesderfer had three saves.

The Golden Wolves look to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they host cross-town and MAC Commonwealth rival, Albright College. The 11:00am game is part of homecoming and is senior day for the Golden Wolves.
