Kelsey Stewart scored the deciding goal on an untimed corner before halftime to give Alvernia University (9-6, 3-1) a 2-1 win over Albright College (6-6, 2-2) Saturday morning in MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey action at Alvernia.
Andrea Wysocki put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 early scoring on her own rebound in the seventh minute. Wysocki gathered her own rebound after an initial shot was saved and fired off a second shot after a scramble in front of the net.
Albright evened things up in the 17th minute. Bailey Lehman passed into Tracy Snyder who shot one in on the opposite side of the goal.
The Golden Wolves were granted a corner opportunity as time expired in the first half.
Morgan Mondschein gathered the corner and sent a pass into Stewart who was off the right post. Stewart turned and fired a shot past Albright's keeper and put the Golden Wolves up 2-1 entering the half.
Albright was able to generate 10 shots on the day with eight of them coming after halftime, but Alvernia keeper
Emma Beamesderfer stopped all four on net in the second to preserve the 2-1 lead.
Alvernia has now won seven straight and will face Widener at home on Wednesday.
