Reading, Pa (Oct. 18, 2017) - Alvernia University (10-6, 4-1), behind senior
Malorie McCoy, used a strong offensive showing to extend its winning streak to eight, and power past Widener University (10-4, 4-1) in a 5-1 win during MAC Commonwealth field hockey action Wednesday evening at Alvernia.
Just over a minute into the game,
Malorie McCoy scored her first goal of the night. McCoy received a pass in from the left half of the field and made moves around multiple defenders before firing one into goal.
Six minutes later,
Andrea Wysocki put the Golden Wolves up 2-0. Wysocki received a cross pass from
Taylor Dorrin. Wysocki took the pass and shot one in past the keeper on the left side of the goal.
In the 17th minute of play, Alvernia extended its lead to 3-0 when McCoy scored her second goal of the night. Following a scramble in front of the net, McCoy was able to gain control of the ball and send one in off the right post.
Late in the 18th minute of play, Widener cut Alvernia's lead to just two. Widener's Kayla Herr sent a shot in from the far right side of the field. An Alvernia defender made an attempt to clear the ball, but the ball instead deflected into the goal.
The score remained 3-1 for the next 28 minutes.
In the 46th minute, the Golden Wolves, behind Wysocki, broke the game open. Following a corner,
Madison Potthoff sent a hard pass into Wysocki. Wysocki got her stick on it and deflected it into goal, putting the Golden Wolves up 4-1.
With just over two minutes remaining,
Morgan Mondschein added to Alvernia's lead. McCoy fed the ball into Mondschein, who was positioned off the left post. Mondschein turned and scored.

Emma Beamesderfer, held the Pride to just two shots on goal. Prior to tonight, the Pride were averaging over ten shots on goal per game.
With tonight's win, Alvernia moves into second place in the MAC Commonwealth Conference standings. The Golden Wolves have three games remaining, including two conference games. They return to action on Saturday when they travel to Stevenson University.
