Owings Mill, Md. (Oct. 21, 2017) - Stevenson University (6-9, 2-4) scored late in the first overtime for a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (10-7, 4-2) Saturday evening in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at Stevenson.
It snapped an 8-game winning streak for the Golden Wolves, who actually locked up a playoff berth due to other league results.
Alvernia took an early lead in Saturday's game.Â
Andrea Wysocki scored twice in the first eight minutes. She scored on an
Erica Groves assist in the fifth minute of the game then added an unassisted goal three minutes later.
The lead remained 2-0 for the guests into halftime.
Stevenson broke through five minutes into the second half then tied the game in the 58th minute.
Emma Beamesderfer finished the night with 11 saves.
Alvernia wraps up the conference schedule Wednesday at Lebanon Valley. Messiah College has locked up the top seed in the playoffs. Widener, Alvernia, and Albright will be the other three teams in the postseason. Alvernia would lock up the #2 seed with a win at Lebanon Valley.
