Annville, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2017) - One goal was enough to lift the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen (8-2-1, 2-1) to a 1-0 lead over Alvernia University (6-7-1, 1-3) in MAC Commonwealth Conference action at Lebanon Valley.
The game was a rematch of last year's MAC Commonwealth semifinal game, where the second seeded Lebanon Valley defeated third seeded Alvernia, 2-0.
The lone goal of the game came late in the 49th minute of play. Lebanon Valley's Robert Hanosek took an initial shot on goal. Alvernia keeper
Zach Rider blocked the shot, but Lebanon Valley's Austin Freeman recovered the rebound and scored on an empty net.
Jay Ringer was able to get a shot off in the 86th minute in an attempt to tie the game, but Ringer's shot was blocked by a Dutchmen Defender.
The Dutchmen out shot the Golden Wolves 27-9 and 14 shots on goal.

Zach Rider broke the Alvernia career save record. Rider now has 66 saves on the season, and 356 for his career. The record was previously held by Richard Kessler (2005-2008), who had 353 career saves. Earlier in the season, Rider also broke the career shutout record when he recorded his 22nd career save against Goucher College.
The Golden Wolves continue their MAC Commonwealth Conference schedule when they host Lycoming College for Homecoming on Saturday.
