Chestertown, Md. (Oct. 14, 2017) - Alvernia University (13-9) dropped a pair of non-conference matches at the Washington College Women's Volleyball Tri-Match Saturday afternoon.
Alvernia extended Franklin & Marshall to five sets in the opener before falling 3-2 then lost 3-0 to Washington.
The Diplomats started the first match with a 25-19 win and Alvernia answered with a win by the same count. Â F&M went up 2-1 with a 25-22 win in the third set before Alvernia leveled the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
F&M ran off six straight points early in the fifth set taking a 6-1 lead, but Alvernia slowly clawed its way back into the match eventually pulling to within a point at 14-13 on a kill from Jill Baker, but F&M won the match with a 15-13 decision on a kill from Grace Polisano.
Kristen Sipling led the way for Alvernia with 24 kills and
Emily Smith and
Laura Wachowicz had 10 kills each. Â
Abby O'Donnell finished the first match with 24 assists, and
Erika McKee and Sipling had 15 digs each.
Washington earned a 25-21 win in the first set of the second match then ran off wins of 25-11 and 25-13 to close the 3-0 win.
Sipling once again led the team with 14 kills.
???????Alvernia continues the season at Wesley College on Tuesday.
