Kuster's Late Tally Carries Alvernia Past Albright, 2-1

Freshman Nets Game-Winner With Under Eight To Go

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2017) - Freshman Ryan Kuster subbed into the game with eight minutes left and scored less than a minute later to give Alvernia University (7-8-1, 2-4) a 2-1 win over Albright College (2-12-1, 1-4) Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action at Alvernia.

Junior Austin Young carried the ball to the endline on the right side and beat his defender into the box with possession hitting a quick pass to Kuster who one-timed it inside the near post for the game-winner.

With the win, the Golden Wolves keep alive a late season push to make the postseason.  Alvernia is tied with Arcadia and Stevenson with four points in the standings.

Alvernia applied pressure from the start ripping three shots wide of the target in the first eight minutes of the game.  Freshman Matt Lee put one on target in the 12th minute, but Albright keeper Billy Mullen turned it away.

Raine Slovak and Jay Ringer both had looks 10 minutes later, but were both off the mark.

Alvernia got on the board in the 32nd minute when Adam Orndorff was able to beat a defender and score.  He received a ball near the top of the box, beat a defender and ripped a shot that caromed off another defender and found the back of the net.

Alvernia senior Zach Rider made a save in the 42nd minute to keep the Golden Wolves up 1-0 at the half.

Alvernia had a golden opportunity to double the lead four minutes into the second half when Ryan Kuster turned and fired a shot from point blank range right off Mullen's chest.  Three minutes later Metuge Esong had a header inside the 6-yard box that was wide of the near post.

Albright leveled the score in the 59th minute when Anthony Parlato got behind the Alvernia defense and won a 50/50 race with Rider.  Parlato poked the ball off Rider's hands and won the race to the ball and placed it into the empty net.

Alvernia generated several threatening shots with under 25 minutes to go in the game, but couldn't find the back of the net.

???????Kuster finally changed that with seven minutes left in regulation.

Rider needed a pair of saves in the final minutes to preserve the win.  He finished with four saves on the day.

???????Alvernia continues the conference schedule Saturday at Widener.

???????Alvernia 2, Albright 1
