Chester, Pa (Oct. 21, 2017) - Three different Golden Wolves scored in the second half to lead Alvernia University (8-8-1, 3-4) to a 3-0 win over Widener University (3-7-4, 0-4-2) during MAC Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action Saturday evening at Widener.
The Golden Wolves and Pride entered the half locked at a 0-0 tie before Alvernia's offense broke loose in the second half.
In the 56th minute,
Alex Pearson scored his first career goal to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. Pearson received a pass from
Raine Slovak and headed the ball inside the post.
Ten minutes later,
Chris Guth put the Golden Wolves up 2-0. Slovak bounced the pall into Guth and Guth turned and shot the ball into goal.
With just over seven minutes remaining in the game,
Metuge Esonge added to the Golden Wolves lead.  The ball was played up to Esong, where he beat  Pride keeper, Danny Thompson on a one on one opportunity.
Alvernia would hold that lead for the remaining seven minutes.
The Golden Wolves defense held the Pride to just nine shots, only two of which were on goal.

Zach Rider earned his seventh shutout of the season, and his 26th career shutout.
With the win, the Golden Wolves move to fourth place in the MAC Commonwealth Conference standings. Alvernia is in control of its own destiny, and looks to secure a playoff spot when they host Stevenson in the final regular season conference on Wednesday night.
