Reading, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2017) - Junior Gabe Hochenberger scored on a header in the 20th minute and Zach Rider made five saves as Alvernia University (6-5-1, 1-1) defeated Arcadia University (7-2-1, 1-1) by a 1-0 final Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Alvernia.

Freshman Raine Slovak made some nifty moves to get to the end line and served a ball to the middle of the box finding Hochenberger for the finish.

Rider was tested a few times by the Arcadia offense.  He made a diving save to preserve a scoreless tie in the 14th minute.  Tyler Ihle had a clean look from the top of the box that was marked for the upper corner, but Rider stretched to get a hand on it and knock it away.

He faced a pair of shots later in the half that were relatively straightforward then had a tough short hop in the second half.  Arcadia had two shots in the final 12 minutes of play that were barely off the mark.  

Alvernia continues the conference schedule on Saturday at Hood College.
