BOX SCORE Frederick, Md. (Oct. 7, 2017) - Hood College (7-5-1, 1-1-1) scored a goal in the second minute of the second overtime period to lift the Blazers to a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (6-6-1, 1-2) in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action Saturday evening at Hood.
The Blazers were the first to strike, scoring late in the 35th minute of play. Brandon Feuerherd received a pass from Luke Staley and sent the ball past Alvernia keeper
Zach Rider.
With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, Alvernia was able to tie things up.
Gabe Hochenberger was able to control the ball and fire a shot off after a corner kick was sent into play.
Hood was able to get one more shot attempt in the 86th minute. However, the shot was blocked by an Alvernia defender and neither team was able to send anything in before time expired.
Just 36 seconds into the first overtime, Hochenberger had a header shot that was saved by Blazer keeper Danny Castillo.
With just five seconds remaining in the first overtime,
Austin Young fired a shot off, which was again saved by Castillo.
The Alvernia defense did not allow any Hood shots during the first overtime. That would change in the second overtime.
In the 102nd minute of play, the Blazers were granted a free kick opportunity. Kyle Bulgarelli gathered the rebound off of the free kick and shot one past Rider to lift the Blazers to the 2-1 victory.
Rider finished with six saves on the night for the Golden Wolves.
The Golden Wolves return to action Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley to take on the Dutchmen and continue their MAC Commonwealth Conference Schedule.
