Huntingdon, Pa. (Nov. 26, 2017) - Juniata College (4-0) held Alvernia University (2-2) to 22 percent shooting from the floor in the second half of a 70-41 win Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at Juniata.
Alvernia was down just seven at halftime, 35-28, but turned the ball over on successive possessions to start the second half while Juniata started with a pair of layups to push the lead to 11 points. Â The gap was double digits the rest of the way.
Sophomore Nick Youngkin was the only player in double digits for Alvernia with 10 points. Â Marcus Lee led Juniata with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
After a few empty possessions for both teams to start the game, Alvernia senior Alex Shippen hit a 3 to open the scoring. Â Youngkin hit two 3s over the next three minutes and Alvernia had an early 11-5 lead.
Juniata responded with a 14-2 run and eventually settled for the 35-28 advantage at the break.
Alvernia heads home to open the conference schedule on Wednesday hosting Hood College.
