Allentown, Pa. (Nov. 27, 2017) - Maya Cooper scored a team-high 19 points and Alvernia University (3-2) defeated Cedar Crest College (0-4) 73-48 Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at Cedar Crest.
The Golden Wolves opened up a nine-point lead after the first quarter, were up 40-30 at the break, and capped the game with a 26-7 output in the fourth quarter.
Cooper was one of three players to reach double digits for Alvernia. Â Torie Zerbe scored 11 point and came within a rebound of a double-double, and Liv Andrefski added 10 points.
Alvernia scored the first six points of the game and never trailed. Â Andrefski scored the opener then Cooper and Zerbe scored for the 6-0 lead three minutes into the game.
Cedar Crest had cut the gap down to six points after a seven-point output from Alvernia in the third quarter, but Cooper opened the fourth with a 3 and Alvernia scored the first nine points of the final quarter to establish a comfortable margin.
Alvernia returns home to open the conference schedule on Wednesday hosting Hood College for a doubleheader. Â The men's game will open the night at 6:00 followed by the women's game at 8:00.
