Reading, Pa (Dec. 19, 2017) - Penn State Harrisburg scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Alvernia University and take a 69-52 win during non-conference women's basketball action at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.
The Lions hit a jumper and made an and one free throw with 14 seconds left in the half to take a six point lead going into the break.
Coming out of the half,
Abbie Zerbe hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to three points, but the Lions answered with a 3-point shot of their own. Harrisburg then went on a 13-2 run to take a 14 point lead with just under four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Golden Wolves cut their deficit down to seven points entering the fourth quarter, but were unable to keep pace with the Harrisburg, who outscored Alvernia 21-11 in the final ten minutes.
Alvernia threatened to take the lead midway through the second quarter when
Maya Cooper made a three to put the Golden Wolves within one. The Lions found their stride and pulled away from the Golden Wolves, scoring seven points in two minutes.
Cooper led the Golden Wolves with 12 points and six rebounds.
Abbie Zerbe finished the night with 11 points and three rebounds.
Shanique Mattis and Janel Brown each had 20 points for the Lions. Brown finished the evening with nine rebounds.
The Golden Wolves have just over two weeks off for the holiday and will return to action when they travel to Arcadia for MAC Commonwealth action on January 3rd.
