Lebanon Valley Knocks Off Alvernia, 85-64

Annville, Pa. (Dec. 2, 2017) - Lebanon Valley College (6-1, 2-0) defeated Alvernia University (2-4, 0-2) by an 85-64 final Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball at Sorrentino Gymnasium.

The Dutchmen went 6-for-6 from the arc and shot 63 percent from the floor in the first half to build a 48-35 halftime lead, pushed the lead to 20 points early the second half, and moved to 2-0 in league play with two more MACC games before the break.

Alvernia drops to 0-2 in the early going and will host preseason favorite and defending conference champion Lycoming on Wednesday.

LVC put four players in double figures led by senior Andy Orr who scored a game-high 17 points.  Alvernia sophomore Nick Youngkin matched Orr's 17, Calil Moultrie scored 14, and Anthony Hedgepeth scored 11.

Hedgepeth and Youngkin both answered jumpers from Orr to open the game and Ricky Bugg broke the 4-all tie with the first 3 of the game for the Dutchmen.

The LVC lead hit 14 points midway through the first half, but Alvernia trimmed it back to five points, 32-27, with 4:12 left in the half following a pair of free throws from Mike Miller.

LVC went on a 16-8 run to close the half hitting three 3s in the final four minutes to set the 48-35 halftime score.

The lead remained 13 or more for the balance of the second half.

Miller finished the day with five points and pulled within six points of 1,000 for his career.
