Media, Pa. (Dec. 20, 2017) - Junior Anthony Hedgepeth scored a career-high 20 points as Alvernia University (3-6) snapped a six-game losing skid with a 77-59 win at Penn State-Brandywine (7-3) Wednesday evening in non-conference men's basketball.
Alvernia senior Alex Shippen broke through with a season-high 20, Mike Miller scored 13, and Calil Moultrie added a dozen. Â Hedgepeth went 9-for-10 from the floor and pulled down 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double.
Brandywine held a 9-6 lead early, but Alvernia erased that deficit and built its own lead to as many as seven points in the first half before taking a 29-25 lead into the halftime break.
Brandywine had the second-half gap down to two points twice, but the first time Hedgepeth scored on a jumper for some breathing room, and the second time Miller and Moultrie combined to hit three 3s in a two-minute stretch that put the Golden Wolves up 56-47 with 8:03 to play.
Another Hedgepeth jumper gave Alvernia its first double-digit lead of the game, and it grew to as many as 18 in the final minute of the game.
James Fisher had a team-high 18 for the Lions.
Alvernia is off for the Christmas holiday and will return to action facing Drew University on day one of the Al Senevitis Memorial Holiday Tournament hosted by Desales University on December 29.
