Grantham, Pa (Dec. 9, 2017) - The undefeated #15 Messiah College Falcons (8-0, 3-0) held Alvernia University (3-6, 0-4) to 29 points en route to an 80-29 victory over the Golden Wolves during MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Messiah.
The Golden Wolves were held scoreless for nearly the first four minutes before
Kiersten Ingram put Alvernia on the board with a 3-point shot.
Maya Cooper put the Golden Wolves within in two with a layup with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter before Messiah would go on a 7-0 run to close out the first quarter.
Messiah continued its offensive hot streak in the second quarter, outscoring Alvernia 21-6. Alvernia entered the half facing a 24 point deficit.
The Golden Wolves scored the first points of the second half with a
Liv Andrefski three, but the Falcons kept up their pressure and Alvernia was unable to gain ground on the 15th ranked team in the country. Messiah would go on to score 30 points in the third quarter, which is tied for the most points the Falcons have scored in a quarter all season.
Alvernia was led by Cooper, who finished the day with nine points and four rebounds. Freshman Gabriella De Vito finished with a career high six rebounds.
The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday, December 16th when they host Gwynedd Mercy University at 1:00 PM.
