Andrew Ritchie scored four goals and senior
Patrick Dunn netted two in the final eight minutes to lead Alvernia University (1-0) to a 14-12 win over Neumann University (0-1) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
Ritchie scored the first goal of the game and the teams were tied at 3-3 after the first quarter. Â After nearly 13 minutes without a goal in the second quarter, the Knights bookended an Alvernia goal for a 5-4 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw the goals come fast and furious with the teams combining for 11 goals in 15 minutes.
The Alvernia bench got raucous after a
Sam St. Croix goal tied the score at 5-5 under a minute into the second half, but the Knights needed just five seconds to retake the lead with Chase Fraser winning the faceoff cleanly and scoring on a fast break.
Alvernia tied the score at 7-7 and again at 9-9, but each time the Knights were able to regain the lead.  Dunn set up sophomore Jarret Abernethy with two minutes left in the quarter and the sophomore's third of the game tied the score at 10-10 where it remained after three quarters.
Ben Manning scored unassisted to give the Crusaders the lead early in the fourth quarter, then after Neumann tied the score again, Manning setup Dunn to regain the lead, 12-11 with 7:37 to play. Â The Crusaders doubled their lead with
Dean Zagorica winning the faceoff and cruising in for his first of the season.
Neumann cut the gap to 13-12 on a man-up goal with 5:42 to go, but Dunn netted his second of the day at 2:20 to close the scoring.
Alvernia continues the season next Wednesday at Centenary.
