Reading, Pa. (Feb. 8, 2017) - Albright College (19-4, 14-0) posted 39 second half points to take a 72-39 victory over Alvernia University (2-20, 2-11) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Women's Basketball action on Jack McCloskey Court.
Leading by just four at the half, Albright put together a 24-3 run in the third quarter to hold a 57-32 advantage entering the final frame.
The Crusaders and the Lions were evenly matched through the first half, encountering four lead changes and a trio of ties.
Albright pulled ahead by six just three minutes into the contest, but jumpers by
Miranda Hoover and
Megan Bruno set up
Abbie Zerbe to knock down a 3 to lock the game at 11.
The Lions gathered a 15-11 advantage just before the end of the first quarter, but the Crusaders brought the deficit to one at 23-22 as
Kiersten Ingram drained one from beyond the arc with six minutes remaining until half.
Another Hoover jumper gave the Crusaders the lead before
Liv Andrefski mirrored Ingram for Alvernia's largest margin of the game, 27-23.
After knotting the game 29-29, Albright used a layup and a pair from the line in the final 40 seconds of the quarter.
Alvernia was led by Hoover with 9 points and 10 boards.
Maya Cooper added 8 points, while Ingram brought down 8 boards.
Nina Mazzarelli was the difference maker for the Lions, netting 31 points.
The Crusaders continued their MAC Commonwealth schedule on Saturday, traveling to Arcadia University for a 1:00 start.
