Reading, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2017) - Alvernia University (4-2) netted eight first half goals en route to a 13-9 victory over Manhattanville College (3-3) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Alvernia's Turf Field.
After the two sides exchanged a pair of tallies across the first fifteen minutes, the Crusaders scored six unanswered goals to take an 8-2 margin into the half.
Abby McCarthy, who also put away Alvernia's first of the day, jump started the run with a set of unassisted goals two minutes apart.
Alyson Keene delivered her first of the day at the six minute mark before
Brittany Defibaugh put away a pair in less than a minute to extend Alvernia's lead 7-2.
Keene struck another time just before the half for her second of the contest.
McCarthy kept her stride to start the second half, pushing Alvernia's advantage to 9-2, but the Valiants responded with a trio of goals to pull with four, 9-5.

Tequila Donnelly helped the Crusaders hold an 11-6 lead entering the final ten minutes.
Manhattanville threatened to close the gap, ripping a pair in less than a minute to cut its deficit 11-8, but McCarthy and Defibaugh each added an insurance goal to secure the 13-9 win.
With her final tally, McCarthy became the 11th player in Alvernia program history to reach 100 career goals.
Kallie Taylor recorded the win in the net for Alvernia, gathering 12 saves.
The Crusaders return to their home turf on Wednesday for their conference opener against Widener University at 7:00 pm.
