Reading, Pa. (Mar. 9, 2017) - Alvernia University (2-1) broke a 6-all tie with eight straight goals and earned a 14-6 win over Neumann University (0-3) Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.
Neither team had more than a one-goal lead in the first half with Neumann scoring the final goal of the half for a 4-3 lead at the halftime break.
Alvernia took leads of 5-4 and 6-5 early in the second half only to see Neumann tie it both times. Â The second time with 19:36 left in the game.
Brooke Campione broke the tie with just under 15 minutes left to play then
Bridget Reynolds scored back-to-back goals in a 50-second span to put the home team up 9-7. Â
Brittany Defibaugh followed with the first two goals of her career to push the lead to 11-6, and
Abby McCarthy followed with a pair to make it 13-6 with 3:31 to play. Â
Alyson Keene closed the scoring in the final seconds of play.
Samanatha Rothman made four saves to pick up the win.  Neumann goalie Gabby Curry finished with 20 saves keeping the Knights close until midway through the second half.
Alvernia continues the season Sunday at Sweet Briar College.
