Reading, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2017) - Nathan Fretz scored three runs at the top of the Albright lineup and the Lions (7-18, 3-10) defeated #11 Alvernia University (21-5-2, 10-3) by a 5-1 final Thursday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Angelica Park.
Fretz walked and scored on a double in the first inning as the Lions took an early 1-0 lead against
John Catchmark.
Fretz doubled and score in both the third and the fifth innings for a 3-0 lead.
Alvernia got on the board with a run in the home half of the fifth. Â
Kyle Gaynor singled to center to start the inning and moved up on a sacrifice bunt.  Alvernia leadoff batter
Nathan Sides drove home Gaynor with a single up the middle. Â
Mike Cirilli walked to put two on with one out, but the Crusaders couldn't drive them in.
Alvernia had the leadoff man on in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings but couldn't score. Â Albright tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the eighth for the 5-1 final.
Sides finished 3-for-5 at the plate and
Cameron Coons and
Matt Briner had two hits apiece.
Alvernia and Albright finish the 3-game series with a doubleheader at Albright on Saturday.
