#11 Alvernia Sweeps Albright For Series Win

Dunne Throws Second Straight Complete Game

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 15, 2017) - Junior Dillon Dunne threw his second straight complete game and #11 Alvernia University (23-5-2, 12-3) swept Albright College (7-20, 3-12) to win its 20th straight conference series Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Albright.

Thomas Malik threw six strong innings in the opener allowing a run on six hits with six strikeouts, and the offense exploded led by a pair of 3-run homers from senior Cameron Coons.

Dunne allowed all three runs in the second inning, but didn't allow another hit until the leadoff batter in the seventh.  He responded with three straight strikeouts to close the game.

Coons doubled in a run in the first inning of the second game, and Mike Cirilli who homered once in each game drove a 2-run home run out in the fourth inning for a 6-3 lead.  Ben Dubas singled in a run in the top of the seventh for the final run of the game.

Coons was 3-for-3 in the opener with six RBIs.  Matt Briner went 4-for-5 at the plate in the opener with a run scored and an RBI.  Nathan Sides and Dubas were both 3-for-4 in game two.

Alvernia has now won 49 of 51 series in MAC Commonwealth action since joining the league in the 2009-10 year.

Alvernia continues the season with three straight non-league games to start the week.  It is at Montclair State on Monday, home for Immaculata Tuesday, then at Moravian on Wednesday before returning to conference play hosting Stevenson next Friday.
