Allentown, Pa. (Apr. 19, 2017) - Moravian College (14-17) scored three runs in the first and two more in the seventh for a 5-1 win over #12/15 Alvernia University (23-8-2) in a non-conference baseball game shortened to eight innings by darkness.
The Hounds took advantage of three errors by the Crusaders and plated three runs on a 2-run single and a sacrifice fly for the early 3-0 lead.
Alvernia scored its only run of the game in the second inning aided by a Moravian error. Â
Dillon Dunne reached on a booted ball to start the inning then scored on a 2-out single off the bat of
Colin Rieger.
The game remained a 2-run gap until the home half of the seventh when Moravian's leadoff batter drew a walk and Logan Welles lifted a 2-run homer out for a 5-1 lead.
Alvernia had baserunners in all eight innings, but couldn't find the timely hit. Â

Cameron Coons were all 2-for-4 at the plate to pace the Alvernia offense.
Senior
Ryan Sheekey went six and a third innings and took the loss allowing five runs--two earned--on six hits with six strikeouts.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Friday hosting Stevenson for game one of the three game series.
