Crusaders Drop Pair To Blazers

Frederick, Md. (Apr. 29, 2017) - Hood College held Alvernia University to three runs in both games to take a pair of wins over the Crusaders Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth softball action at Hood.

The Blazers took the first game 5-3 before claiming the nightcap 6-3.

In the opener, Hood captured an early 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Roo Saglimbeni.

The Crusaders chipped away, cutting the deficit to 1 in the second as Taylor Thomas delivered an RBI single to plate Psiuk, who reached two batters prior on an infield single.

Alvernia knotted the game at 2 in the fourth as Thomas drove in her second run of the day, again crossing Psiuk.

In the fifth, the Crusaders pulled ahead 3-2 as Amanda Turner singled up the middle to score Brianna DePriest, who led off the frame with a base knock to right center.

Hood responded in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run shot to regain a 5-3 advantage.

Alvernia put runners on in the final two innings, but were unable to convert a run.

In the nightcap, Hood picked up an early lead again, plating one in the first.

Psiuk answered with an RBI single in the third to tie the game 1-1, but the Blazers put up a 5-spot in the bottom half of the frame to lead 6-1.

Psiuk kept a hot bat in the fifth, driving in JoAnnah Lim and Sarah Bystrycki to cut Hood's lead in half 6-3.

The Crusaders put a runner on in the sixth, but Hood pitcher Sophie Leaman worked out of the inning.

With today's doubleheader wrapping up the regular season, the Crusaders become eligible for an ECAC bid. Selection for ECAC tournament will take place on Monday, May 8th.
