Reading, Pa. (Apr. 9, 2017) - Stevens Institute of Technology (13-12-1) took advantage of opportunities late scoring all five of its runs after the sixth inning in a 5-3 win over #11/12 Alvernia University (20-4-1) Sunday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Angelica Park.
The Crusaders scored a run in the first and two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead behind freshman starter
Jarrad Graver who went five and a third giving up just two hits with three walks.
Graver surrendered a leadoff double in the sixth then held the runner there with a strikeout and a brilliant sliding catch from senior
Joe Iacobellis in the gap in right center. Â He turned the ball over to senior
Antonio Baglivo who uncorked a wild pitch on his first toss, but got out of the inning with a ground ball to third.
Cameron Coons tripled off the fence in center with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but the Crusaders couldn't add to their lead.
Stevens opened the top of the seventh drawing a pair of walks off Baglivo. Â
Zack Landy took over for Baglivo and allowed an RBI single then got back-to-back strikeouts.  He walked the next batter to load the bases with two out, and Shane Bartnick hit a two-run single to center to tie the game.
The Ducks put two on with no one out in the top of the eight on a hit batter and a walk then after a sacrifice bunt and another hit batter loaded the bases, Landy got a force play at home for the second out, but this time Michael Mule' delivered a two-run single to put the guests on top 5-3.
Alvernia went in order in the bottom of the eight and ninth to finish the game.
The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday when they host Rutgers-Newark at 3:30 p.m.
