Reading, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2017) - Eastern University (1-0) scored twice in the final 25 minutes to take a 3-1 win over Alvernia University (0-1) Friday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Â They played a free ball into the box that Alvernia keeper
Zach Rider left his line to claim. Â The ball was knocked loose in the scrum and after two defenders cleared shots off the line, Eastern's Sean Dougherty was able to find the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 well the second half when the Eagles doubled their lead in the 67th minute. Â Cade Harmon carried the ball into the offensive third and was able to maneuver around Alvernia defenders at the top of the box before placing a shot past a diving Rider.
Alvernia got on the board six minutes later when freshman
Damien Jennings was taken down in the box. Â
Jay Ringer took the free kick and buried the chance to pull Alvernia within a goal at 2-1.
Eastern reestablished the two-goal cushion scoring on a penalty kick of its own in the 89th minute.
Rider made five saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
