Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2017) - No. 6 Franklin & Marshall (1-1) scored a pair of goals early in the second half on its way to a 2-0 win over Alvernia University (0-2) Saturday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Tylus Field.
The teams combined for 19 shots in the first half, but only one was on target and Alvernia senior
Zach Rider turned it aside for a scoreless game after the opening 45 minutes.
The Diplomats opened the scoring just under five minutes into the second half. Â Jason Tonelli took a cross from Jim Connolly in the 50th minute and place his shot inside the far post for the 1-0 lead.
That gap doubled in the 57th minute when Connolly set up his second goal of the game, this time a corner kick that Wyatt Fabian redirected home.
Alvernia tested F&M keeper Sebastian Jenkins with six shots on net in the second half, but the Golden Wolves couldn't break through.
Alvernia keeps the non-conference schedule rolling on Tuesday when it plays hosts to Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
