Zach Rider needed just one save to record his 22nd career shutout and become the career leader at Alvernia University as the Golden Wolves (3-3) defeated Goucher College (3-3) by a 1-0 final Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
The offense took care of business early when
Damien Jennings finished a feed from
Gabe Hochenberger for the first goal of his career in the seventh minute. Â Rider made it stand need just one save on a shot from outside the box in the 82nd minute.
Alvernia held the balance of the offense possession finishing with 16 shots on the day, but just one got by Goucher keeper Hunter Opdyke who finished with six saves.
Rider passes former keeper Ben Diller who recorded 21 shutouts from 2009-12. Â Rider is also ranked second in career saves, now with 314 he needs 40 more to pass Richard Kessler (2005-08) to hold that career mark.
Alvernia continues a 3-game home stand hosting Cabrini College in non-conference action on Saturday.
