Bethlehem, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2017) - Alvernia University (2-2) split a pair of matches for the second straight day at the Greyhound Premiere Women's Volleyball Tournament hosted by Moravian College on Saturday.
The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead over York College in the opener winning the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores. Â The Spartans earned a convincing 25-8 win in the third set then forced the fifth set with a 27-25 win. Â Alvernia couldn't muster the same magic it had Friday evening when it topped the host Greyhounds in five sets. Â York took the match 3-2 with a 15-11 win in the fifth.
In the second match, Alvernia cruised to its first three-set win of the season knocking off Bard College (19, 15, 17).
Senior
Kristen Sipling was named to the All-Tournament team. Â She totaled 72 kills with a .263 hitting percentage over the weekend.
Sipling was the only player in double figures in kills versus York pounding down 17 kills on 50 attempts. Â She followed with 12 more in the win over Bard. Â
Abby O'Donnell had 62 assists over the two matches and
Aubrey Gruwell-Keating reached double figures in digs both matches with 11 against York and another 10 versus Bard.
Alvernia returns home to open the MAC Commonwealth schedule hosting Lycoming on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
