Reading, Pa (Sept. 20, 2017) - Elizabethtown College (5-2) scored three goals in a ten-minute span to take a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (4-4) during the annual "Kicks for Cancer" game, part of non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia University.
Alvernia struck first when
Adam Orndorff received a pass from
Raine Slovak just inside the 18.' Orndorf dribbled and took a lob shot over the goalie's head to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 just 12 minutes into the game.
Late in the 38th minute, the Blue Jays answered with a goal of their own. Elizabethtown's Duncan George took a shot off the left post. The shot hit the crossbar and bounced in behind Alvernia keeper
Zach Rider.
With just over a minute remaining the first half, Elizabethtown took the 2-1 lead when JD Haaf dribbled up the left side, took a shot from the left post, and put one past Rider.
Just over a minute into the second half, Elizabethtown added to its lead when Gilbert Waso scored his eighth goal of the season on a successful penalty kick conversion. Waso shot to right side of the goal, while Rider dove left.
Early in the 60th minute of play, Alvernia gained one back on the Blue Jays. For the second game in a row, the Golden Wolves were benefactors of an own goal. Orndorff fired a shot off just in front of the Blue Jay goalie, who was in the top of his box. The shot hit off the keeper and, in an attempt to clear the ball, a Blue Jay defender instead kicked the ball into the goal.
Following the own goal, Alvernia was only able to fire off one more shot, which went wide left, as Elizabethtown held on for a 3-2 win.
The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday as they travel to take on Immaculata University.
