Kuster Shot Pushes Golden Wolves Past Mighty Macs

Reading, Pa (Sept. 23, 2017) - With just 17 seconds remaining in double overtime Alvernia University's (5-4) Ryan Kuster scored the game winning goal to lift the Golden Wolves to a 2-1 win over Immaculata University (2-5-1) in non-conference men's soccer action at Immaculata.

Immaculata opened up the scoring just over a minute into play when Mark Staudenmayer forced a turnover from an Alvernia defender right in front of Alvernia's goal. Staudenmayer fired off a quick shot to put the Mighty Macs up 1-0.

Alvernia was able to get off five shots on goal in the first half, all of which were saved by Immaculata keeper, Mikey Kalpokas.

The Golden Wolves tied things up in the 63rd minute of play when Austin Young sent in a shot that saved by Kaplokas. Gabe Sensing collected the rebound for the Golden Wolves and sent off a shot of his own that made it past Kaplokas and tied the game up at 1-1.

Neither team was able to break the tie, sending the game into overtime.

During the first overtime period, Young and Nick Tait each had a shot, but were unable to convert either them, sending the game to a second overtime period.

Alvernia had five shot opportunities during the first nine minutes and 43 seconds of the second overtime period, but they were again unable to convert them.

With time running out, and just 17 seconds remaining in the second overtime, Ryan Kuster was able to convert Alvernia's sixth shot of the second overtime period and break the tie. Kuster received a pass from Nick Sincavage just inside the box. Kuster sent the shot into the far side of the net, lifting the Golden Wolves to a 2-1 victory.

The Golden Wolves finished the day with 37 shots, including 15 shots on goal.
