Reading, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2017) - Alvernia University (10-5) earned its 10th win of the season in September for the first time since 2004 with a tri-match sweep of Bryn Mawr and Gwynedd-Mercy Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Center.
Alvernia opened with a 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr. Â Gwynedd-Mercy knocked off the Owls 3-0 in the second match of the day, and Alvernia closed with a 3-0 win over the Griffins.

Kristen Sipling and
Laura Wachowicz led the offense with 12 and 10 kills respectively and
Abby O'Donnell dished out 32 assists.
???????Alvernia jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first set scoring seven straight points on O'Donnell's serve. Â The lead grew to 19-4 and the Golden Wolves closed out a 25-7 win to go up 1-0 in the match.
The second set was closer until the hosts put together a run on Sipling's serve to take a 13-5 lead. Â A second run had them up 21-6 before closing out a 25-10 win.
???????Alvernia broke a 17-all tie in the third set with a quick spurt and won the match with a 25-21 decision in the third.

Sipling pounded down 13 kills, O'Donnell had 28 assists, and three different players reached double figures in digs led by
Laura Wachowicz who had 12.
Trailing 14-11 in the opening set, Alvernia put together a run of 10 straight points to take a 21-11 lead. Â GMU managed to stem the tide on an Alvernia service error, but O'Donnell took her turn in rotation and served out a 25-15 win.
Aubrey Gruwell-Keating ran off another run early in the second set as the Golden Wolves jumped out to an 8-1 lead. Â The lead grew to 14-2 and Alvernia cruised to a 25-7 win in the second set.
Gwynedd-Mercy opened up a 9-4 lead in the third set, but Alvernia stormed back to take an 11-10 lead. Â The hosts kept up the pressure moving ahead 16-13 and 18-14 before winning 25-15 in the final set.
